No Turning Away
We’ll be perfectly frank and admit that we’re so impressed with its polished presence that we’d be smitten with McIntosh’s MT10 turntable even if it tracked the grooves on our vinyl with a nail driven through a broomstick.
(This might be an improvement over the crap that passed for audio gear in our youth.)
As you might expect from the celebrated company’s first turntable after six decades in the audio business, the MT10’s specs match its style.
Witness its belt-driven 12-pound platter, machined from a special silicone acrylic. The 2.5-inch thick, backlit platter rotates on a magnetic bearing that literally suspends it on a friction-free cushion of air.
A damped Dural aluminum tone arm rides on a sapphire and ceramic bearing and is pre-set for tracking force, anti-skate and cartridge alignment. Finally, a mirror-finish chassis and fiber optic-illuminated glass front panel — sporting the renowned McIntosh logo and trademark analog meter (this one indicates platter rotation speed) — helps ensure that the MT10’s form complements its function.
